Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, the Dean of International Programmes Office (IPO) is an Associate Professor of Architecture, KNUST, a former Examinations Officer of the College of Art and Built Environment, and the Vice Chairman of the organizing committee of the 9th KNUST Summer School (2019-2021). As a Fulbright Scholar, Prof. Duah obtained his PhD in Planning, Design, and Construction (Construction Management specialty) from Michigan State University, USA. He also obtained an MSc. in Construction Management and Economics from the University of Greenwich, UK, and postgraduate and undergraduate degrees in Architecture from KNUST-Kumasi. He worked previously at Barnfield College in Luton, UK as a Tutor-in-Building Studies and Michigan State University as a Post-Doc and Research Associate. He was formerly the Coordinator of Graduate and Undergraduate Programmes and the ERASMUS+ Programme Coordinator at the Department of Architecture. He has also chaired several committees of the university, including Senior Staff Housing Committee (2016-2020), Quality Assurance Committee of the College of Art and Built Environment (2016-2020), among others.

Prof. Duah is a researcher whose research interests are in sustainability and climate smart planning and design; design economics; energy efficiency in buildings; and smart, universal, and barrier-free built environments. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and acts as a reviewer for several international journals. He has played major roles and won many grants, including Erasmus+ grants for staff and student exchange, GHACEM Cement Mobile Training Academy, Ghana-Netherlands Universities Volta Design Project, among others.

Prof. Duah is a practicing Architect and a Consultant with over seventeen years of professional work experience spanning several countries, including Ghana, the USA, the UK, Germany, and Sierra Leone. He is a member of a number of professional organisations, including member of the Professional Practice Commission of the International Union of Architects, Chief Examiner and member of the Council of the Ghana Institute of Architects. He is also an Associate of the Ghana Institute of Architects and is licensed by the Architects Registration Council of Ghana to practice architecture in Ghana. Furthermore, he is the Relations Officer of the Pentecost Built Environment Guild of the Church of Pentecost and the Chairman of the Estate Committee of the Ejisu Area of the Church of Pentecost.

As a consultant, he has consulted on several projects including: Sustainability and Climate Smart Expert for the Sustainable Smart City Development Project in Kyebi (2021 to date); Consultant for the Inclusive Architectural Design Concepts and Strategies for Accessible Employment Promotion and Training Institutions in Ghana financed by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) (2020 – 2021); Project Manager for the GHACEM Mobile Cement Academy (2018 – 2021); Architect and Sustainability Expert for Peri-Urban Metamorphosis and Transitions Studies at Ningo-Prampram, Kyebi, and Juaben (2017 – 2021); Senior Project Architect for Construction Management/Sustainability for the following projects:

  • Master Plan Development for The Northern Tourism Enclave (nine regions) for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
  • Design and Preparation of feasibility study for VILLA Apothecary - a 250 Bed Capacity 3-Star hotel for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, KNUST.
  • Preparation of masterplan proposal for new central business district for Juaben Municipal Assembly.
  • Preparation of Deeper Life Christian Ministries-Ghana Mount of Transfiguration Campground Master Plan project, Brofoyedu-Kumasi.
  • Concept Development for Trinity Height Towers, Osu, Accra (12-storey mixed-use facility comprising commercial spaces, offices, school etc.).
  • Sierra Leone Integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project comprising a four-storey mixed-use complex (market, health, school), transportation terminal, driver and passenger rest stop, maintenance and washing unit and Okada (local motorcycle) yard.
  • Design review of 230 residential buildings comprising 23 housing typologies from 1 bedroom to 14 bedrooms for the resettlement project of Tetrem community for Asanko mining company, Ashanti region (2019 – 2020).

Socially, Prof. Duah plays an active role in several areas. He serves as the Presiding Elder of the Church of Pentecost, English Assembly in the Kwamo District and is a member of the Ejisu Area Executive. He is also a Bible scholar and a Counsellor especially to the youth. To mother Ghana, he volunteered as the Collation Officer for the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Ejisu-Juaben constituency in the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Prof. Duah is a family person and has been married to Mrs. Ama Serwaa Bonsu Duah since 2004. They have been blessed with two (2) children. He loves travelling, youth mentorship, and soccer.
