The Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah has toured the 70 Stories: KNUST AT 70 Exhibition at the KNUST Museum on August 16, 2023. He was taken round by Prof. Edwin Bodjawah (Museum Coordinator) and Dr. George Amoratwum, both members of the team of Curatorial Directors of the exhibition.
The exhibition stages a photographic survey of the seventy years since the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was established as Kumasi College of Technology (KCT) in 1951. It retroactively commemorates the 70th Anniversary celebrations, which took place in 2021, and focuses on historical and contemporary moments, personages, and events, while honouring leaders, visionaries, icons, pioneers, inventors, academics, statesmen/women who have emerged out of KNUST to achieve significance of both national and global magnitude.
“70 Stories” is a constellation of narratives, facts, hopes, and aspirations that respond to the journey of KNUST since its inception. The survey highlights notable achievements by staff, faculty, alumni, and students over this period that exemplify the University’s strategic mandate, core values, and vision.
The exhibition casts a broad university-wide outlook into the accomplishments, innovations, and influential persons of each college of the University. The exhibition's ethos was succinctly captured in Dr. Ephraim Amu's memoirs and the ‘ayan’ poem, which was the school's drum call in the early days of KCT. It also recapitulates KNUST's appellation, "From Forest to Faculty," which was the title and subject of a film documentary commissioned by the University in the 1970s and directed by Charles Owusu.
The University's motto, "Nyansapo wosane no badwenma," which translates as "the knot of wisdom is untied only by the wise," reaffirms the institution's successful journey from forest to faculty.
Curatorial Directors for the exhibition are Prof. Edwin Kwesi Bodjawah (Museum Coordinator), Dr. George Buma Ampratwum, Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, and Prof. kąrî’kạchä seid’ou
Prof. Duah expressed his delight and amazement at the volume of history and memories, the role of the Asante royalty in the life of the university, as well as the achievements of the university and her alumni, showcased at the exhibition. He added that these exhibitions are a must see for the university community, national and international guests and looked forward to showcasing this to the world.
He congratulated the curators and all stakeholders for a great work done under the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson.
With the Dean was Christopher Asamoah Bediako, Outbound and KNUST Experience Officer at the International Programmes Office.
