On Monday, 9th February 2026, a delegation from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, paid a courtesy call on the Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), KNUST, Prof. Mrs. Augustina Angelina Sylverken, as part of their stay in Ghana for the wrap-up of the KNUST–RWTH Aachen University BRIDGE project.
The BRIDGE project, formally titled Building Resilient Communities through the Integration of Climate Adaptation with the SDGs for University Education and Research, is an initiative aimed at strengthening climate change education, research, and community engagement across Ghana’s ecological zones.
Discussions focused on potential collaboration between the two institutions in the areas of staff, student, and research exchanges, as well as the key achievements of the BRIDGE project. These include capacity-building workshops for academic staff, research engagements for PhD students both in Germany and at KNUST, and the establishment of an AI lab at the University. The delegation also highlighted the project’s contribution to university-community partnerships, including participation in the 2024 Water Literacy Conference in Hannover alongside Ghanaian Traditional Authorities.
Prof. Mrs. Sylverken warmly welcomed the delegation, commending the Association for its proactive approach in fostering strong academic relationships. She reaffirmed the IPO’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance research, capacity building, and community engagement in Ghana. She further emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between KNUST and RWTH Aachen University, noting that continued partnerships would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, innovation, and the development of solutions to address pressing societal challenges such as climate change and sustainable development. expressing optimism that the relationships continue to strengthen the BRIDGE project and also serve as a foundation for future joint initiatives that benefit both institutions, the wider academic community, and society at large.
Present at the meeting were Professors Sylvana Rudith King and Victor Selorme Gedzi, as well as Dr. Margaret Makafui Tayviah, all as project partners and Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Mr. Joel Mensah and Miss Patricia Frimpong Manso, all from the IPO.
