As part of a broader academic engagement in Ghana, a delegation from the Technical University of Munich, Germany (TUM) led by Prof. Dr. Juliane Winkelmann, Senior Vice President, International Alliance and Alumni alongside Mr. Dominik Herbert Biesser, Co-Lead Global Engagement, TUM Africa and Dr. Michael Bernd Helmut Zech, paid a courtesy call on the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, to strengthen existing institutional ties and explore new avenues for collaboration between the two universities.
During the meeting, key areas of mutual interest were discussed, particularly in light of TUM’s recent achievement for the fourth consecutive time, "University of Excellence", as announced by the Science Council (WR), the German Research Foundation (DFG), was mentioned and well positioned the university as an engine of innovation for the well-being of humanity, providing a strategic framework to guide future collaboration.
Discussions also highlighted potential opportunities for TUM and KNUST collaboration, including Seed Funding Schemes to support joint research initiatives, such staff and student mobilities to enhance academic exchange, relaunch of PhD exchange programs under the TUM-Africa Talent Program, establishment of a TUM Project Office at KNUST, contingent on available funding and Cooperation in Human Genetics.
The meeting also provided a platform to review ongoing collaborative initiatives and reaffirm both parties’ commitment to strengthening academic exchange, joint research, and capacity-building efforts. The delegation also reflected on progress in existing partnerships, including activities linked to the KNUST–TUM Integrated Training Center and emerging collaborations in medical research and responsible artificial intelligence.
