Dr. Daniel Adjei of Universitè Paris Saclay, France Call on Dean of the International Programmes Office

Dr. Daniel Adjei, Research Engineer, Institut de Chimie Physique (ICP), Université Paris-Saclay, France and Dr. Martin Owusu-Mensah, a lecturer at the Department of Physics, KNUST called on the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, on the 24th July, 2023.

Dr. Adjei mentioned that the purpose of the visit to Ghana was to promote Medical Physics in Ghana under a project grant sponsored by the French Embassy in Ghana under the framework NYANSAPO which supports the cooperation initiatives of French and Ghanaian higher education and research institutions where he is partnering with colleagues from KNUST.

The focus of the grant is to train and build capacity in Medical Physics and work towards establishing an MPhil Medical Physics programme under three objectives; Support Open day where the schools come to KNUST, and outreaches where the team visit Senior High Schools. The third objective is a workshop for Medical Physicists to come together to share ideas. The expected outcome should be 50 people over 3 days.

Other projects include a symposium for Artificial Intelligence to be held from the 4th to 6th October, 2023 at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS) to promote AI all over the country. An office to allow students learn coding to be established and for the team to organise competitions where participants would develop codes for research and development.

Prof Adjei and Dr. Martin commended Prof. Daniel Duah on the progress the International Programmes Office has made. He mentioned that the face of IPO had changed in terms of visibility especially to students.

On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Duah welcomed Dr. Adjei to his Alma mater and brought up KNUST’s Day of giving on October 6. The aim is to raise GHc 200,000,000 from alumni, faculty, students, and friends of the university to build a 2,000 bed capacity hostel on campus for students. The Dean emphasized the importance of collaboration to the growth of universities and encouraged the team to work hard to grow the collaboration between the two universities.

It would be renamed that on November 9, 2022, a delegation from KNUST led by the Registrar, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng that included the Finance Officer, Mr. Yaw Nimo-Baffour and the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, visited Universitè Paris Saclay, as part of efforts to deepen partnerships with top universities in France.

At the meeting was Ms. Theresa Joy Kammasah, Collaborations Officer of the International Programmes Office.
