On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Professor Nicole Bing, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at Governors State University (GSU), USA, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She was accompanied by a delegation from Affinity Access International, where she also serves as an International Consultant. The team included Mr. Krobea Asante Adomako, Founder and Executive Director, and Mr. Dominic Baafi Adomako, Country Director.
Prof. Bing’s visit follows recommendations from GSU’s Administrative Management Team and coincides with the finalisation of a partnership agreement between GSU and KNUST. Her primary objective was to explore collaborative opportunities with the School of Public Health, specifically the Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies, to expand access to speech therapy services for both children and adults in Ghana.
She shared her long-standing engagement in Ghana over the past five years, which includes leading an international service-learning programme with GSU students in Ekumpoano, Ekumfi District (Central Region), and collaborating with Global Brigades on sanitation and water infrastructure projects. Prof. Bing also highlighted her recent partnership with Affinity Access International, a non-profit organisation committed to supporting individuals with special needs in Ghana, aimed at establishing sustainable speech therapy training and services in Kumasi. Through a partnership with KNUST’s School of Public Health, she hopes to scale up this initiative and reach more communities in need.
Prof. Daniel Duah warmly welcomed Prof. Bing and her team, reaffirming KNUST’s commitment to impactful and strategic partnerships. He emphasised the critical need to develop the field of speech therapy and pathology in Ghana and expressed the University’s readiness to support the initiative. Citing a personal experience, he highlighted the value of such programmes and assured the visitors of the IPO’s support in facilitating the agreement and connecting them with the relevant units at the School of Public Health. He concluded by wishing Prof. Bing a successful and productive visit.
Also present at the meeting were Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar; Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer, all from the IPO.
