Eswatini Students at KNUST Expressed Gratitude to Vice Chancellor and University Community After Memorable Encounter with King Mswati III

On Wednesday July 2, 2025, a group of Eswatini students studying at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, to express their deepest appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and university community for the opportunity to meet His Majesty King Mswati III during his official visit to the University on Friday, June 28, 2025.

The ten Eswatini students, most of whom are Mastercard Foundation Scholars pursuing various programmes in science and technology, described the royal encounter as an unforgettable and emotional moment, one that strengthened their connection to home and reminded them of their unique role as representatives of Eswatini in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the group were Khoza Lerato, a third year Actuarial Science student and Country Representative of the International Students’ Association; Ayanda Kunene, a third-year Medical Imaging student; and Minenhle Tsabedze, a third-year Social Work student.

The three expressed heartfelt appreciation to the University, the team from International Programmes Office, and University Relations Office, for facilitating the meeting with their King.

They extended special thanks to Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah for his guidance and support, and to Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar, for originating the idea and organizing the cultural elements that made the meeting so special.

They also conveyed their gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor through the Dean, acknowledging the role of the University in providing them with the exposure and opportunity to meet their monarch while far from home.

In response, Professor Daniel Duah , speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and the International Programmes Office, commended the students for their composure, cultural pride, and academic commitment. He encouraged them to remain focused, make the most of their time at KNUST and strive for excellence. He also reminded them to serve as responsible ambassadors of Eswatini and to let their experiences reflect positively on their country and continent.

The meeting concluded with warmth, laughter and a shared sense of purpose, highlighting the importance of international education, cultural identity and unity across borders.
