On Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Nancy Matillya, Interim Chair of the Family Medicine Residency Programme at Aga Khan University in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Medicine, and Director of Health Services, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), paid a courtesy visit to Prof Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at KNUST.
The purpose of the visit was to explore potential health-related collaborations between KNUST and Aga Khan University, with a focus on enhancing healthcare delivery and advancing academic partnerships.
Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng shared insights from his recent visit to Aga Khan University, expressing admiration for the institution’s exemplary healthcare delivery systems and training infrastructure. He emphasized the potential mutual benefits that a strategic partnership could offer to both institutions.

Dr. Nancy Matillya expressed her sincere appreciation for the warm reception and commended the KNUST community for their exceptional hospitality and engagement. She further elaborated on Aga Khan University’s healthcare philosophy, highlighting the Patient-Centred Care model and the Excellent Patient-Centred Care (EPCC) approach as key pillars of their service delivery. Additionally, Dr. Matillya shared information about the various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) the university maintains with hospitals in other countries, which have strengthened collaborative healthcare networks.
In response, Prof. Daniel Duah reiterated KNUST’s strong commitment to fostering impactful academic and healthcare partnerships. He emphasized that MoUs are vital instruments driving the university’s internationalization agenda, serving as enablers of collaborative growth and sustainable development. He also stressed the importance of African-to-African collaborations, noting their significance in advancing regional integration, academic excellence, and improved healthcare systems across the continent.
Also present at the meeting were Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Ms. Laudina Kumi-Adjei, Administrative Support Officer; and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer.
