Mr. Benjamin Agyenim-Boateng, Head of Physical Planning at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He was accompanied by Dr. Francisca Atta Boateng, a Planning Officer from the Physical Planning Department of the KMA.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between KMA and KNUST in support of the Kumasi Trees Project - a visionary initiative championed by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to restore Kumasi’s reputation as the "Garden City" of Africa and for the urban greening and beautification project of Kumasi championed by Lady Julia, the wife of the Asantehene.
Dr. Alexander Marful, co-lead of the project, reiterated the commitment of all stakeholders toward the beautification and greening of Kumasi.
In his remarks, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng expressed KMA’s full endorsement of the initiative and emphasized the Assembly’s interest in identifying key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive roadmap and enduring blueprint for sustainable urban greenery.
The meeting focused on several strategic areas including:
• Implementation plans for the Manhyia Corridor, which will serve as a pilot scheme
• Design proposals for all round abouts in Kumasi
• Stakeholder mapping and engagement strategies
• Scheduling a planning and design workshop
Professor Daniel Duah warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He commended KMA’s initiative to foster inclusive stakeholder engagement, emphasizing its importance for ensuring the long-term sustainability of green spaces in Kumasi adding that it is the vision of the university to make her impact felt in the communities. He indicated the full commitment of the management of KNUST to this project which has the Pro Vice Chancellor chairing a committee to green and beautify Kumasi.
Also present at the meeting were Miss Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer.
