At a historic and momentous occasion to foster educational and cultural collaboration, thKwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)T) in Kumasi, Ghana and the University of Seychelles (UniSey) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This marks a major step in fostering academic and research ties between the two institutions.
It would be recalled that at the invitation from the Chancellor of KNUST, His Royal Majesty Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, Asantehene to the President of Seychelles, HE Wavel Ramkalawan to attend the durbar marking 100th anniversary of King Prempeh I’s return from exile in Seychelles, this academic partnership was mooted leading to President Ramkalawan calling on the leadership of KNUST late 2024.
Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor and Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, Registrar, signed for KNUST and Ms. Joëlle Perreau, Vice Chancellor and Dr. Justin Zelime, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Development signed for UniSey in the presence of the Minister of Education for Seychelles, Minister Justin Davis Valentin.
Built on shared values of academic excellence, innovation, and cultural exchange, both universities have committed to working together to advance knowledge and academic excellence by focusing on: student and staff exchange, Joint Research, programme development, and shared Resources.
Speaking at the signing, Professor Dickson, highlighted the importance of this collaboration: "This MoU is more than just a partnership between two universities; it is a bridge connecting Ghana and Seychelles in pursuit of education, innovation, and cultural exchange. Together, we can unlock new opportunities for our students and faculty while contributing to global progress."
Similarly, UniSey’s Vice-Chancellor emphasized her delight about the innovative potential of this partnership: "The University of Seychelles is proud to collaborate with KNUST, one of Africa’s leading institutions. This partnership will enable us to explore new horizons in research and education, benefiting not only our students but also the broader communities we serve."
