On Monday, August 18, 2025, students from the KNUST Basic School who participated in a cultural exchange programme in Seocho-gu District, Seoul, South Korea, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The team comprised Bethuel Jason Aforo, Nana Mensah Awere, and Akua Nyantakyiwaa Adomako, who were introduced to the IPO by Mr. Eric Oti-Attah, Deputy Head of the Basic School, and Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Akosua Andrews, ASPnet Coordinator at the Basic School and Leader of the team Korea.
Dr. Mrs. Andrews expressed pride in the students’ participation, noting that it was a great privilege for three KNUST Basic School students to be selected as part of only ten students nationwide for the exchange. She indicated the importance of the travel and the many experiences the students obtained for this visit.
Aforo spoke about his excitement at discovering the Smart Hub Centre and his unexpected talent in playing the trumpet at the music theatre. Adomako recounted the warm hospitality extended by the Koreans from the moment they arrived, as well as her appreciation of the exquisite cuisine. Awere, who embarked on his first international trip, expressed delight at the well-furnished libraries catering to all age groups, and praised Seoul’s integration of nature into urban settlements.
The students revealed that the experience had inspired clear academic interests in fields such as agriculture, environmental sustainability, and architecture.
Welcoming the students and staff on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daniel Duah congratulated them on their achievement and commended their role as ambassadors of KNUST. He emphasized the transformative value of international mobility, stressing that while classroom teaching is essential, exposure to new environments provides unique experiences and builds networks that leave a lasting impact. He concluded by thanking the team for representing the University and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Also present at the meeting were Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer, and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer, both of the International Programmes Office.
