Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hosted its 2026 Food Festival under the theme, “Our Heritage on the Plate: Indigenous Foods for a Hunger-Free Future.” The event brought together international students, staff, food vendors, and innovators to celebrate Ghana’s culinary heritage, showcase global cuisines, and promote indigenous foods as sustainable solutions for nutrition and food security. The International Students Association was represented by students from Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya and China, while exchange students were represented by Germany.

Activities included food stands, a food bazaar, a meat joint, drama and dance performances, and food-related competitions, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere for all participants. IPO officials were present throughout, supporting the event and engaging with students to enhance the international student experience.

The festival also provided a platform for cultural exchange and networking, allowing students from different countries to share traditions, make connections, and strengthen the sense of community on campus. The festival also aimed to highlight the role of indigenous foods in building resilient food systems and fostering a hunger-free future. Participants described the event as enjoyable, educational, and inspiring, highlighting KNUST’s commitment to diversity, creativity, and global citizenship.
