On Monday, January 20, 2025, Honourable (Hon.) Adams Abdul-Salam, the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase Constituency and an alumnus of KNUST and Brandon University paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The purpose of the visit was to discuss a collaboration on the Canadian International Development Scholarships to study Master of Arts in Rural Development programme at the Brandon University, Canada.
During the meeting, Hon. Abdul-Salam shared insights into a scholarship opportunity that will provide 10 students over the next five years the chance to pursue a Master of Arts in Rural Development at Brandon University. He emphasized the importance of formalizing an agreement to govern the collaboration between the two institutions, with the aim of exploring additional opportunities for partnership across other university departments.
He further noted that three students had already been selected and are currently studying Rural Development at Brandon University. This programme, he explained, is crucial for equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to foster rural development in Ghana upon their return. He also mentioned plans to select three more students for the second cohort and discussed the modalities of the program.
Professor Daniel Duah, having welcomed Hon. Abdul-Salam back home and congratulating him on his re-election, highlighted the importance KNUST attaches to partnerships reechoing KNUST’s mission to train skilled professionals for the global stage and expressed KNUST’s enthusiasm to partner with Brandon University on this scholarship that will provide her students with the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in Canada with full funding.
He assured Hon. Abdul-Salam that the IPO would continue its efforts to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and looked forward to making a call for applications for the 2025 cohort once completed. He concluded his remarks by encouraging more of such opportunities.
