On Friday, 12th September 2025, the elected President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Mr. Shakir Waiz Is-haq, and the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alhassan Wunmam, paid a courtesy call on the Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Mr. Waiz Is-haq, a Mathematics student, and Mr. Alhassan Wunmam, a Sociology student, were warmly received by the Vice Dean. They stated that their main mission of visiting the office was to introduce and familiarize themselves with the activities of the office.
The meeting discussed the role of IPO in advancing KNUST’s internationalisation agenda and supporting both local and international students. The Vice Dean highlighted some of IPO’s core functions, including managing inbound and outbound student exchange opportunities, coordinating international partnerships, and contributing to ensuring the welfare of international students on campus. She emphasised that all students, regardless of nationality, are first and foremost KNUST students. However, to achieve better integration, with the support of the Vice-Chancellor, activities such as Oseikrom Bronya and Akwaaba Night for freshers for international students to feel at home in Ghana have been introduced.
Regarding how IPO assists KNUST students abroad and how exchange opportunities are communicated to students, the Vice Dean explained that IPO makes use of social media, University community platforms, emails and other channels to share opportunities widely. She also noted that exchange programmes have greatly enhanced the University’s global visibility and reputation.
The meeting ended with the SRC President assuring the Vice Dean of the SRC’s commitment to ensuring the inclusivity of all students.
Present at the meeting included Karikari Gyimah Ankoana the inbound, outbound exchange Officer and Attah-Nyame Esampong the visibility and communication officer.
