On Monday, December 15, 2025, Mr. Silas Ifeanyi from the Pearl Sullivan Engineering IDEAs Clinic at the University of Waterloo, Canada, paid a courtesy visit to the International Programmes Office (IPO) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The visit was part of ongoing efforts to enhance international academic collaboration.
A trained engineer and researcher, Mr. Ifeanyi holds a Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering. His expertise spans data analysis, design engineering, and Internet of Things (IoT) development.

Beyond academia, he has made significant contributions to industry collaboration and innovation at the IDEAs Clinic. His work in optics and thin-film research demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach to science and engineering. 
During the meeting, Mr. Ifeanyi expressed his gratitude for the cooperation that facilitated his engagement with KNUST, especially through the Ghana Photonics and Optics Laboratory (GPOL), led by Dr. Akyana Britwum and Dr. Michael K. E. Donkor.

Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, Dean of IPO, commended the initiative, highlighting its role in building meaningful academic and research connections between KNUST and the University of Waterloo. He encouraged sustainable engagements between the two institutions. He discussed the potential for future academic exchange programmes, which would provide KNUST students with opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research in Canada. Such initiatives, he noted, would enhance student exposure, strengthen research capacity, and boost institutional visibility, particularly within the Department of Physics and the College of Science.
The IPO welcomed the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting international partnerships that drive research excellence, innovation, and global engagement. Mr. Ifeanyi’s visit underscores the importance of strategic collaborations in expanding academic and research opportunities for both staff and students at KNUST.


Joining the meeting were Prof. Augustina Angelina Sylverken, Vice-Dean; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar; Miss Gladys Obenewah Sekyi, Administrative Assistant Officer; and Miss Patricia Frimpong Manso, Visibility and Communications Officer, all from the International Programmes Office.
