A team of two (2) from Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Budapest, Hungary called on the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah on 25th July, 2023.

The team, comprising Katalin Badak-Kerti, PhD, an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Grain and Industrial Plant Processing, with interest in baking, pasta, cereal processing, confectionery and edible fat technologies; and Dr. Caleb Melenya Ocansey, a former Lecturer at the Department of Forest Resources and Technology, KNUST and currently holding the position of Department Associate and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (MATE) with interest in real time ecosystems monitoring, international collaboration and nutrient cycling, is currently on a 5-day Erasmus visit to KNUST.

Prof. Badak-Kerti stated that the purpose of their visit is to connect MATE’s research and educational resources and possibilities with that of KNUST, focusing on Food Science and also with other units focusing on aquaculture, plant protection, among others. She added that the visit is an initiation for possible research collaboration between the Departments of Food Science of both MATE and KNUST, with emphasis on compounds of cocoa, coffee and developing methods based on physical characteristics of raw food materials.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and Management of the University, Prof. Duah welcomed the team to KNUST, a leading science and technology university in Africa and the best University in the world for SDG 4 - Quality Education according to The Times Higher Education for 2023. Prof. Duah emphasised the importance of collaborations and partnerships to the growth and development of institutions and looked forward to enhancing the partnership between KNUST and MATE. He added that interactions between the two institutions typically takes the form of staff mobility, student exchange and joint research projects.

Later, the International Programmes Office organized a comprehensive tour of our beautiful and green campus for the team.

Present at the meeting were Dr. John-Lewis Zinia Zaukuu, Lecturer, Department of Food Science and Technology; Dr. Isaac Amoah, Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology and Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Assistant Registrar at the International Programmes Office.
