A team of three comprising Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Disse, Chair of Hydrology and River Basin Management, Christiane Zach-Cretaine, Administrator and Fabian Merk, a PhD Student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany called on the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
The Technical University of Munich is a public research engineering institution in Munich, Germany. It specializes in Engineering, Technology, Medicine and Applied and Natural Sciences. The University is organized into eight Schools and Departments, and supported by numerous research centers. It is one of the largest Universities in Germany, with 50,484 students and an annual budget of €1,770.3 million (including the University Hospital).
The purpose of their visit was to have a field survey in flood hotspots in Kumasi and do drone measurements for hydrodynamic modeling of the basin in collaboration with Prof. Leonard Amekudzi, Provost of the College of Science and a Climate Scientist. They also collaborate with the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Center (RWESCK), Department of Civil Engineering, in modelling flood inundation in Kumasi.
On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and Management of the University, Prof. Duah welcomed them to KNUST. He expressed his excitement for the visit, and the importance of the collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Duah highlighted the deep partnership between KNUST and TUM and mentioned that currently, ten (10) students from KNUST are on a semester exchange programmes at TUM. Vice-Chancellor visited last year and this year, Senior Vice President of TUM for Global Engagement and Alumni Relations is expected in September. He added that KNUST has a student population of 86,459 and a very beautiful and vibrant campus adding that such exchanges engenders good discussions and offers good opportunity for students and faculty.
