Team from Youth Going Places (YGP) Visit KNUST

A team from the Youth going places, Aburi, Eastern Region visited KNUST for a campus tour. The team of 12 called on the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Duah, to formally introduce the group.

The team leader is Mr. Cashawn, an African American who also runs Habesha Foundation, an NGO in Ghana. The foundation is affiliated with Habesha Inc in the USA. The primary purpose of the NGO is to reverse the brain drain cycle in Africa and to bridge the gap between Ghanaians in the diaspora and their home countries by introducing them to cultural experiences and educational opportunities.

The Youth Going Places Group was established 20 years ago for cultural exchanges for diaspora high school kids which includes college tours. Mr. Cashawn also spoke about the Kweku Andoh Sustainable Institute which focuses on research and training that highlights instruction in eco-holistic practices from an indigenous African perspective.

The Dean welcomed the team and pointed out that the tours are a good idea since they expose the diaspora to top Universities in Ghana which are up to International standards. He also informed the team that KNUST had been named the best university in the world for Quality Education (SDG Goal 4) for 2023 by the Times Higher Education.

The Dean also briefly introduced KNUST to the group touching on the University’s six colleges, the Institute of Distance Learning and the Obuasi Campus. He also pointed out that KNUST believes in partnerships to grow and highlighted a few of the recent exchanges the university had engaged in.

Present at the meeting was Miss Theresa Joy Kamassah, Officer in charge of Collaborations and Partnerships at the International Programmes Office.
