On February 28, 2025, the Vice Chancellor of Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE), Professor Eddie Mwenje, accompanied by his assistant, Mr. Daniel Chihombori, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, at KNUST.
Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), explained that the purpose of the visit was to explore potential collaborations between the two institutions. He noted that the BUSE delegation had already visited the Department of Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat (EENT) to learn more about the Audiology Unit. He added that the team would later tour the university, including the KNUST E-Learning Centre.
Professor Mwenje expressed gratitude for the warm reception and provided an overview of BUSE. He highlighted the success of their Optometry program, established in collaboration with the University of Cape Coast, which has graduated three cohorts. He further explained BUSE’s interest in developing an Audiology program, a relatively new field in Zimbabwe, and sought KNUST’s expertise to support this initiative. Professor Mwenje expressed admiration for the EENT Department and proposed a formal partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration in research, academic exchanges, and capacity-building, particularly in Audiology.
Professor Rita Akosua Dickson welcomed the delegation and shared insights into KNUST’s structure and mission, emphasizing its commitment to training globally competitive professionals. She expressed enthusiasm for the proposed collaboration, reiterating KNUST’s dedication to excellence in research and innovation. Professor Dickson assured BUSE of KNUST’s readiness to engage in a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at addressing societal challenges and improving quality of life.
