Sierra Leone Won Painting Competition in First International Students’ Hangout Organised by the International Programmes Office

On Friday January 31, 2025, we had amazing fun and learnt about various countries at the first International Students Hangout held at the Conference Room of the Singh Guest House at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Based on the theme: What makes your country stand out, the goals for the event included fostering cultural exchange and understanding among international students, providing a fun and engaging environment to showcase the uniqueness of various countries, and promoting artistic expression through a creative 'Paint & Sip' activity.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, highlighted the importance of bonding together as international students, feeling at home away from home, taking time off studies to relax and getting to know and taking care of each other.

Whilst highlighting some upcoming programmes including the novel: Around the world in a day at the Basic School, Akwaaba night and many more, Prof. Daniel Duah admonished them to take their studies seriously and reminded them about the latest directive on mid semester examinations, encouraging them to take their studies seriously.

The President of the International Students Association, Pascal Milambo Muzungu, appreciated the importance of the programme and noted the partnership between ISA and IPO and looked forward to an enjoyable evening and more programmes together in the future.

Activities for the event included a Cultural Showcase – Brag About Your Country activity where reach participanting country presented and discussed what makes their country unique. Also, there was a Painting Activity where each group did a painting to represent their countries.

Sierra Leone emerged the winners of the highly competitive painting competition which included participants from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Burundi, Burkina Fasso, Germany, Kenya, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
