Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana Paid Courtesy Visit to the Dean of the International Programmes Office

On July 4, 2025, His Excellency Tamás Fehér, Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Yaw Addai Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), ahead of the second National Scientific Symposium organised by ISPOR – The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (Ghana Chapter), in collaboration with Syreon Research Africa and the KNUST School of Public Health.

The symposium, themed “Advancing Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) for Sustainable Healthcare Decision Making in Ghana and Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)", underscores the imperative of evidence-based decision making in healthcare.

Upon welcoming the Ambassador, Prof. Duah lauded the Hungarian Embassy's unwavering commitment to fostering robust academic and scientific ties with Ghana, highlighting KNUST's dedication to cultivating global partnerships that drive impactful research, particularly in the realm of health sciences.

His Excellency Tamas Fehér expressed profound admiration for KNUST's significant contributions to healthcare research and education in Ghana and the sub-region, reiterating Hungary's steadfast interest in strengthening bilateral collaboration in science, technology and education, with a particular emphasis on addressing healthcare challenges.

On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mrs Rita Alosua Dickson and the University Management, Prof Daniel Duah welcomed Hos Excellency Fehér to KNUST and recognised the importance of partnerships highlighting the growing collaboration engagements with institutions in Hungary. He looked forward to the growth of partnerships with Hungarian institutions with the aim of achieving mutual benefits.

Key officials who joined included Dr. Marcell Osanadi; Managing Director of Syreon Research Africa; Professor Esmeranda Manful, Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office; Dr Ernest Attuquaye Quaye; President of the ISPOR Ghana Chapter; Professor Eric Fosu Oteng-Abayie, Keynote Speaker of the Symposium and Head of Department of Economics, KNUST; Professor Peter Agyei - Baffour and Mrs. Ernestina Quarshie, Dean and Secretary of the School of Public Health respectively; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer and Ms. Emmanuella Larweh, Hospitality Operations Officer, all from the International Programmes Office as well as other Executive members of ISPOR.

This high-level engagement reflects the mutual commitment of the Hungarian Embassy and KNUST's International Programmes Office to strengthening academic and research linkages that can advance sustainable healthcare solutions in Ghana and the broader sub-region.
