University of Florida Centre for African Studies Signed Memorandum of Understanding with KNUST

On Friday, July 4, 2025, the University of Florida (UoF) Centre for African Studies entered a strategic partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), marked by the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony took place at the International Programmes Office (IPO) of KNUST and marked a significant step toward fostering collaborative academic and research initiatives between the two institutions.

Professor Miles Larmer, Director of the Centre for African Studies at UoF, in his initial remarks, highlighted UoF’s dedication to expanding its global partnerships, particularly in the Global South. He acknowledged Ghana’s outstanding academic environment, especially in science and technology and commended KNUST’s strong reputation for research and innovation. He also emphasized UoF’s strengths in public health, medicine and arts, expressing enthusiasm for future faculty and student exchanges and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

The MoU, which had earlier been endorsed by the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, was endorsed by Prof. Larmer on behalf of the University of Florida.

Prof. Daniel Duah, representing the University Management and the International Programmes Office, warmly welcomed Prof. Larmer and the KNUST representatives. Prof. Duah reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to fostering active and meaningful international partnerships and increasing same for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Team

The meeting was attended by key officials from IPO including Professor Esmeranda Manful, Vice-Dean; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar; Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer; and Ms. Emmanuella Larweh, Hospitality Operations Officer.

Also present were academic representatives from the Department of History and Political Studies, KNUST that comprised Professor Edward Brenya, Professor Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, Dr. Sebastian Angzoorokuu Paalo and Dr. Dramani Aminu.

This high-level engagement underscores the shared vision of both institutions to enhance academic and research cooperation.
