On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, a delegation from the UK’s Education Sector for Africa at the High Commission in Accra, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The delegation comprised Mr. Tamir Campbell Ismail, Education Director for Africa, and Miss Jo Ann Sackey, Deputy Country Director at the UK Department for International Trade in Ghana.

Mr. Ismail indicated that the Sector is committed to strengthening collaborations between UK and Ghanaian higher education institutions. He observed that while several links already exist at the national level, there remains a significant gap at the institutional level. To bridge this gap, he underscored the need for universities in both countries to co-create curricula and establish joint and dual degree programmes. This, he noted, would allow Ghanaians who desire UK qualifications but are unable to travel to the UK for various reasons to obtain the degrees locally and get the best of both worlds.

In pursuit of this vision, the Sector has begun identifying leading Ghanaian institutions with which to initiate discussions, with KNUST standing out as a key partner.

Professor Daniel Duah, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the initiative. He assured the team that KNUST would make the necessary arrangements for further deliberations to identify areas of mutual interest. He added that any partnership would be pursued in consultation with university management, relevant British institutions, and ultimately, with the consent of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.

Also present at the meeting were Professor Esmeranda Manful, Vice-Dean of the International Programmes Office; Professor Ahmed Agyapong, Dean of the KNUST School of Business; Dr. Akyana Britwum, Lecturer in the Department of Physics; Miss Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer, all of the International Programmes Office.
