A delegation from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, led by Professor Moritz Heinrich Dörstelmann, Professor of Digital Design and Fabrication at the Faculty of Architecture, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The team included researchers, Master of Architecture students, and one Bachelor of Architecture student, and was accompanied by Professor Alexander Boakye Marful of the Department of Architecture, KNUST. Their visit forms part of the Reinterpreting Natural Building Materials (RENABUMA) Workshop, under the Prefabrication Project, which brings together students from both institutions to design and construct a two-storey structure using indigenous materials and digital fabrication technology.
Professor Dörstelmann stressed the importance of the project in promoting sustainable construction in Africa, noting Ghana’s suitability as a hub for such research. He expressed appreciation to KNUST for its collaboration and reaffirmed KIT’s commitment to building a long-term partnership.
Welcoming the delegation, Professor Daniel Duah emphasised that international collaborations are central to KNUST’s vision as a leading science and technology institution. He explained that such partnerships not only enrich academic exchange but also drive innovation and sustainability, key pillars of the University’s mandate.
Highlighting his collaboration with Professor Marful in sustainable and inclusive architecture, Prof. Duah commended the project for combining advanced digital technologies with indigenous building materials, thereby bridging tradition and innovation. He concluded by extending his best wishes to the delegation and encouraged further exploration of joint opportunities.
Also present were Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer, and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communication Officer, both of the IPO.
