A delegation from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, paid a courtesy call on the Pro-Vice Chancellor (KNUST), Professor David Asamoah, to explore opportunities for collaboration in student-faculty mobility and exchange on December 01, 2025. The meeting, facilitated by the International Programmes Office (IPO), revealed that the collaboration initially focused on student and staff exchange in public health, which later extended to the School of Nursing.

The Dean (IPO), Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, indicated, “The partnership already existed between the school of Public Health and Nursing, but now they are here to discuss possible opportunities outside of the engagements,” he noted.

The delegation lead, Dr. Osamu Ohneda, Vice Director of the Bureau of Global Initiatives, emphasized the importance of cross-cultural learning, noting that exchange programs offer Japanese students valuable exposure to African contexts while giving Ghanaian students insight into Japan’s research environment.

Dr. Fukushige Mizuho, also Vice Director of the Bureau of Global Initiatives, added that although Japan hosts many international students, the initiative seeks to increase Ghanaian participation and deepen cultural exchange. She explained that Japan hopes to further diversify its campuses by welcoming more students from Ghana, and noted that the collaboration will include opportunities for selected students from various universities to receive in-person training.

Professor David Asamoah, Pro-Vice Chancellor, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to international partnerships and expressed openness to exploring additional avenues for collaboration.“We value such partnerships, and we will establish the appropriate frameworks to ensure they remain productive and mutually beneficial for both institutions and encourage the delegation to broaden their engagement across the university, highlighting opportunities in engineering, the humanities, environmental sciences, and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI).'
