On Thursday, 15th January 2026, the International Programmes Office (IPO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hosted a delegation from the Iowa State University Engineers Without Borders (ISU–EWB) chapter as part of ongoing collaboration. The visit aimed at strengthening student mobility, field-based learning, and community-focused development initiatives.
The delegation briefed the Office on progress made on several development projects, including the installation of two solar water heaters to support cooking activities. Preliminary findings showed that boiling water with solar-heated water reduced cooking time by up to thirty minutes and lowered firewood use by approximately twenty-five percent. Updates were also provided on community borehole assessments, which confirmed stable water availability and tested the long-term viability of two solar-powered boreholes.
The team further reported on the construction of a Polyclinic project, currently at the first-floor level, which is being supported through ISU–EWB fundraising activities.
The Dean of IPO, Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, outlined its internationalisation priorities, including expanding mobility programmes, promoting joint research, and enhancing participation of administrative staff to strengthen institutional capacity. The meeting concluded with the exchange of symbolic gifts and reaffirmed both institutions’ commitment to leveraging academic partnerships to address community needs, foster global competence, and support student development.
Also present from the International Programmes Office were Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar; Ms.Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Ms.Gladys Obenewaah Sekyi, Administrative Support Officer; and Ms. Patricia Frimpong-Manso, Visibility and Communications Officer.
