A delegation from Mary Immaculate University, Ireland, comprising of Dr. Julian Bloomer and Paul Aplin accompanied by Professors Alexander Yao Segbefia and Prince Osei-Wusu Adjei of the Department of Geography and Rural Development, (KNUST), paid a courtesy call on the Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Prof. Mrs. Augustina Angelina Sylverken, on Friday, 16th January, 2026 to discuss and explore avenues for collaboration between the two institutions.
The meeting served as an opportunity to review an informal academic collaboration that has existed between Mary Immaculate University and the Department of Geography and Rural Development, KNUST, for the past three years. Both parties acknowledged the positive outcomes of the engagement, which has included student interactions and expressed a shared interest in formalising the partnership to enhance sustainability and impact.
In her remarks, Prof. Mrs Sylverken welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the IPO’s commitment to supporting the development and implementation of international partnerships. She assured the delegation of the Office’s readiness to facilitate the formalisation process and to ensure that agreed activities are effectively implemented. She further emphasised the importance of periodic reporting, particularly during partnership renewal, noting that reports are essential to evaluating progress and sustaining collaborations, and also highlighting the range of institutional support available through the IPO.
Discussions further explored potential areas of collaboration, including student admissions, academic and research opportunities, and structured programme development. Both institutions agreed on the need for a clear, mutually agreed framework, with proposals to be jointly developed, reviewed, and subjected to the necessary legal and administrative processes before formalisation. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to sustained engagement and open communication.
Present at the meeting were Augustus Kweku Sobeng, Wonder Kofi Adzigbli, Evans Amoako Amoah, all from the Department of Geography and Rural Development, and Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Mr. Joel Mensah, and Ms. Patricia Frimpong Manso, all from IPO.
