The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on the 19th of May, 2026 hosted a delegation from the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Ghana Insurance University College (GIU) at the Main Administration building for a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Campus Care Project.
The delegation, which included representatives from NIC, GIU, Citi TV, and the Business & Financial Times, was led in discussions by Dr. Isaac Baidoo.

The Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, introduced the delegation and emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between academia and industry in preparing students for the professional world.
Discussions centered on the Campus Care Project, which seeks to advance insurance education, actuarial training, research, digital innovation, and professional development opportunities, particularly for students in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
Dr. Isaac Baidoo stated that innovation remains the core focus of the partnership and announced a GHS one million seed fund to support the establishment of the Campus Care Project Office. He added that the collaboration would create internship and professional development opportunities for students, especially within the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to productive industry partnerships that promote practical training, research, and innovation. She noted that the project aligns with the University’s broader vision of preparing the future workforce with relevant skills and industry exposure.

Under the agreement, KNUST will provide office space and institutional support, while GIU will offer technical expertise, mentorship, and professional guidance to students.
The MoU is expected to facilitate internships, industrial attachments, research collaboration, and skills development within the insurance and financial services sector.
Also present during the meeting were the Rector of GIU, Dr. Richard Okyere; Dean of the Faculty of Physical and Computational Sciences (representing the Provost of the College of Science), Prof. Joseph A. Ackora-Prah; Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physical and Computational Sciences, Prof. Akoto Yaw Omari-Sasu; Head of Department, Computer Science, Prof. Michael Asante; Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. (Mrs.) Augustina Angelina Sylverken; and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, Dr. Vicent Kofi Dedu.
The Comissioner of NIC, Dr. Abiba Zakaria in a subsequent visit, called on the Dean of IPO where she signed the MoU thus making the agreement fully excited and setting into motion the Campus Care Project.
