British High Commissioner to Ghana paid courtesy call on Vice Chancellor of KNUST

On Friday, April 25, 2025, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson. The visit took place at the Council Chamber of the university.

Accompanied by Mr. Duke Mensah Opoku, Political Officer at the British High Commission, Her Excellency engaged in fruitful discussions with University Management and Principal Investigators of several United Kingdom-funded projects currently underway at KNUST.

Among the projects highlighted were: Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL); Sustainable, Holistic and Inclusive Energy Systems (SHINE); Ghana Goals; Farm Sense, Collaborative Online Intelligent Learning (COIL); Partnerships for Enhanced and Blended Learning (PEBL), among others.

Her Excellency, Ms. Thompson, shared her enthusiasm about the potential growth of these projects, emphasising the importance of exploring further opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, adding that these initiatives underscore the strong and growing academic and research ties between KNUST and institutions in the UK, particularly in areas of innovation, sustainability, digital learning, and artificial intelligence

In her response, Professor Mrs. Dickson reiterated KNUST’s commitment to advancing impactful research and innovation through global partnerships. She expressed the University’s readiness to develop more strategic collaborations with the United Kingdom, aimed at delivering mutual benefits and contributing to the development goals of both nations.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Charles Nsiah, Finance Officer; Professor Jerry John Kponyo, Dean, Quality Assurance and Planning Office; Dr. Eric Tutu Tchao; Dr. Andrew Selasi Agbemenu; Dr. Richard Opoku; Mr. Kingsley Apusiga; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso and other staff of the International Programmes Office, as well as staff of the various projects.
