PROFESSOR CHRISTIAN AGYARE ASSUMES OFFICE AS KNUST'S 13TH VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially invested Professor Christian Agyare as the University's 13th Vice-Chancellor, charging him to preserve the institution's rich heritage, strengthen its legacy, and lead with integrity, consultation, and visionary stewardship.

The investiture ceremony, held at the Great Hall on Saturday, August 1, 2026, brought together government officials, members of the University Council, traditional leaders, diplomats, alumni, staff, students, and other distinguished guests to witness Professor Agyare's formal assumption of office.

Describing the occasion as "another important chapter in the history" of KNUST, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said the ceremony represented not merely the installation of a new Vice-Chancellor but the entrusting of one of Africa's foremost universities to "a distinguished son of this institution."

The Chancellor reminded the new Vice-Chancellor that while occupants of the office serve only for a season, the University's enduring mission transcends individual tenures.

 "You inherit more than an office. You inherit a heritage, painstakingly built over seventy-five years by visionary leaders, dedicated scholars, committed staff and generations of students. Preserve it with wisdom. Strengthen it with courage. Enrich it with integrity," Otumfuo Osei Tutu II advised.

 

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also commended the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, for her distinguished service, noting that her administration had advanced the University's growth and strengthened its reputation. He urged Professor Agyare to build on the solid foundation laid by previous administrations rather than seek to rewrite the University's story.

 

"The true measure of leadership is not in undoing what others have begun, but in preserving what has proven valuable, improving what requires attention, and creating new opportunities for those who will come after," he emphasised.

In his inaugural address, Professor Agyare described his appointment as both a profound honour and a solemn responsibility. Reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings, he expressed gratitude to God, his family, mentors, colleagues, and the entire KNUST community for their unwavering support throughout his academic and professional career.

Paying tribute to his predecessors and the wider KNUST community, Professor Agyare echoed the Chancellor's call for continuity, reaffirming his commitment to building on the University's rich legacy while advancing excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and global engagement.
