On Feb. 9, 2025, the Chinese Lantern Festival Gala was held in the sports stadium of University of Ghana, Accra. The President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E. John Dramani Mahama, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Tong Defa, and important leaders of Chinese societies in Ghana attended the celebration and delivered speeches.
The Ghanaian Director, Prof. Daniel Duah, Chinese Director, Prof. Su Zibo, Ghanaian Deputy Director, Dr. Melvin Nartey, Deputy Head of Human Resource Department, Mr. Benjamin Boampong OWUSU and all the teachers from Confucius Institute at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a total of around 3,000 people came to the scene to enjoy various delicacies from different provinces in China, to watch professional performances such as singing, dancing, acrobatics, magic show, etc.
The fireworks set off at the end of the celebration was very eye-catching. Looking at the beautiful fireworks in the sky, poeple made all the good wishes for the Year of Snake.
It is known that Lantern Festival, or Yuan Xiao Jie(元宵节), falls on January 15th of Chinese Lunar Calendar when people enjoy the bright full moon, entertain themselves by guessing riddles attached to the lanterns and eat tangyuan—the typical food for this festival, signifying family unity and happiness.
