Confucius Institute at KNUST Celebrated First Year Anniversary and Held Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Ceremony

On the morning of January 30th, the Confucius Institute at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) celebrated its first year anniversary and held a Chinese Ambassador's Scholarship ceremony at the Great Hall, KNUST. The hall was filled with excitement as students, staff (including College Provosts, Directors, Deans, and Departmental Heads etc), and special guests gathered to mark this milestone.

The event commenced with an opening prayer by Reverend J. W. Acheampong, the Protestant Chaplain of KNUST, followed by a beautiful cultural performance by Hilltop Platinum School.

Speeches were delivered by Professor Rita Akosua Dickson (Vice Chancellor, KNUST), Professor Zibo Su (Chinese Director, Confucius Institute at KNUST), H.E. Tong Defa (Chinese Ambassador to Ghana), and Mr. Tang Hong (President, Ghana Association of Chinese Societies). These addresses highlighted the Institute's accomplishments, the importance of language and Culture and the importance of Ghana-China relations.

Another highlight of the event was the Chinese Ambassador's Scholarship Awarding Ceremony, where deserving students were recognized for their academic excellence. This was followed by Cultural performances by KNUST Basic School, KNUST Senior School, and the Confucius Institute displayed the rich blend of Ghanaian and Chinese cultures.

Professor Daniel Duah (Ghanaian Director, Confucius Institute at KNUST) delivered the closing remarks where he highlighted the need to develop a unique Institute to reflect the science and technology status of KNUST.
