On Friday, February 14, 2025, a delegation from the Association of Francophone Students (AFS) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Duah, the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO). The delegation included Mr. Jean Ange Emmanuel Adou, the Vice President, Miss Tete Mupenge, the General Secretary, and a former leader Mani Abdou.

The purpose of their visit was to formally introduce the Association to the IPO and brief the Dean on its activities. The delegates highlighted AFS’s commitment to ensuring that Francophone students—especially freshmen—feel at home during their time at KNUST. They explained that the Association’s leadership includes representatives from each French-speaking African country with students enrolled at the university. Additionally, they shared that AFS engages its members through various initiatives, including Mois de la Francophonie, the official month dedicated to recognizing and celebrating Francophone culture.

Professor Daniel Duah warmly welcomed the delegates and commended them on their outstanding initiative. He took the opportunity to brief them on upcoming flagship events, such as the Food Festival, Akwaba Night—the official welcome ceremony for international freshmen hosted by the Vice-Chancellor—and Around the World in a Day, an IPO-led initiative designed to expose KNUST Basic students to global cultures by facilitating interactions with international students on a monthly basis. He emphasized that such events foster inclusivity and provide international students with a sense of belonging within the university community.

Encouraging the AFS delegation to actively participate in these events, Professor Duah applauded their efforts in making KNUST a welcoming space for Francophone students. He expressed his enthusiasm for meeting the full leadership of the Association in the near future.

Also present at the meeting were Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, the Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, the Visibility and Communications Officer.
