On Monday, 19th May 2025, the International Programmes Office (IPO), in collaboration with teams from South Dakota State University (SDSU) and the University of Michigan, held the second edition of Around the World in a Day at the KNUST Basic School, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), this time spotlighting the United States of America.
This exciting edition offered an immersive cultural experience, featuring engaging presentations on American culture, language, and customs. The 31-member team, led by Prof. Greg Heiberger, Associate Dean of Academics and Student Success at SDSU, comprised 29 SDSU students and 2 exchange students from the University of Michigan.
The event successfully introduced pupils to the diversity of American life, offering a dynamic and memorable learning experience.
Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar at the IPO, highlighted the value of the programme, noting that as the world becomes increasingly interconnected, Around the World in a Day equips students with a foundational appreciation for global perspectives, a vital trait for future leaders, innovators, and global citizens.
As the programme drew to a close, Mr. Eric Oti Atta, Deputy Head of the KNUST Basic School – JHS, delivered closing remarks in which he expressed heartfelt appreciation to the IPO and the visiting teams for presenting such an enriching and educational experience. He also seized the opportunity to advocate for future opportunities that would allow students to visit the United States and experience its culture firsthand.
This edition not only captivated young minds but also deepened their understanding of global heritage; enabling them to explore the USA without ever leaving their classroom.
