KNUST and North-West University South Africa signed MoU to strengthen research and academic collaboration

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with North-West University (NWU), South Africa, marking a major milestone in the advancement of collaborative research and academic exchange between the two institutions.

The MoU formalizes a long-standing relationship that began in 2018 between the School of Public Health at KNUST and NWU’s Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART). Over the years, the partnership has yielded significant outcomes in the area of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension, through joint research projects, student co-supervision, and faculty engagement.

A delegation from NWU, led by Professor Lebo Gafane-Matemane, Associate Professor of Physiology and Lead of HART, visited KNUST for the signing ceremony. The team also included Sr. Adéle Burger, Manager of the Hypertension Research and Training Clinic; Dr. Felicia Maugana, Postdoctoral Fellow; and Miss Nonkululeko Navise, Lecturer in the School of Physiology.

Welcoming the delegation, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, expressed great optimism about the deepened partnership. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing pressing global health challenges such as NCDs.

The MoU represents a shared commitment to advancing health research, academic excellence, and capacity building on the African continent.

The ceremony was attended by Professor David Asamoah, the Pro Vice Chancellor; Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office; Professor Peter Agyei-Baffour, Dean of the School of Public Health; Dr. Daniel Boateng, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Mr. Isaac Berko, Deputy Registrar for Legal Services Division; and staff from the International Programmes Office and representatives from the University Relations Office.
