On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the executives of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Duah, the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO). The delegation was led by Mr. Francis Nana Kane, the SRC President, and included Mr. Samuel Afful, Vice President; Mr. Daniel Adom, International Relations Officer; Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Brown, Public Relations Officer; and Miss Samuella Opoku Agyemang, General Secretary.
The visit was an opportunity for the executives to formally introduce themselves to the International Programmes Office, present some of their key initiatives, and seek guidance from the Dean. Mr. Kane emphasized one of the SRC’s focal areas—the introduction of International Student Conferences on a reciprocal basis. He explained that while foreign universities have been hosting KNUST SRC executives at such conferences, the time had come for KNUST to also take the initiative in hosting similar events.
Professor Daniel Duah warmly welcomed the SRC executives, congratulating them on their leadership roles and commending their commitment to student welfare. He encouraged them to remain diligent in their responsibilities while ensuring a balance between academics and leadership.
He expressed his support for the proposal, stating that it would require approval from the Director of Students’ Affairs. He also encouraged the SRC to extend invitations to other African institutions.
Professor Duah looked forward to the IPO working with SRC and the International Students’ Association (ISA) to enhance the International Cultural Night and other activities that promote cultural integration. He further suggested planning engaging events for international students who remain on campus during Christmas and Easter, aligning with the Vice Chancellor’s “Homestay” initiative.
Additionally, he encouraged the SRC to work closely with the IPO in raising awareness about Mass Passport Registration for students through digital campaigns on the SRC’s media platforms.
As part of the discussions, Professor Duah informed and invited the executives about IPO’s upcoming VC’s Welcome Ceremony for International Freshmen, popularly known as “Akwaba Night.”
Also present at the meeting were Miss Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Joel Mensah, Inbound Exchange Officer; and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer.
