Nana Akua Abakoma Amoako of the Confucius Institute at KNUST won first prize in the Ghana finals of the Chinese Bridge Competition at the University of Cape Coast

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Nana Akua Abakoma Amoako (Chinese name: 华娜娜) , a student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Junior High School, also a member of Confucius Institute at KNUST, stood out in fierce competition and claimed first prize in the Ghana finals and the “Best Written Exams Award” of the 18th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students, witnessed by over 600 people and held at the Universityof Cape Coast. This marks the first and the biggest prize of its kind for JHS and Confucius Institute at KNUST.

The competition brought together talented secondary school students from over ten schools across Ghana. Contestants demonstrated their Chinese proficiency and understanding of Chinese culture through written tests, speeches, and talent performances.

Nana Akua Abakoma Amoako impressed both judges and the audience with her fluent Mandarin Chinese, strong cultural knowledge, and exceptional stage presence.

The Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Tong Defa awarded her with the certificate and a 55 inch colored television.

This remarkable national-level championship brings great honor not only to Confucius Institute at KNUST, to KNUST JHS, but also to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well.
