On Monday, June 9, 2025, a distinguished delegation from the Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT), China, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
The delegation was led by Professor Wang Xiao, President of HUAT, and included Professor Yan Liquan, Vice President of the Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and Professor Zhou Mingzhi, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at HUAT. The team was introduced to the the ministry by Professor Su Zibo, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) (CI-KNUST).
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ongoing collaborations between the Ashanti and China, invite the minister to the opening of the China-Africa Automotive Development Forum to be held at KNUST, and thank him for his visit to HUAT in April this year.
Professor Wang Xiao expressed his profound satisfaction with the progress CI-KNUST had made within a little over one year of its establishment and the super it continues to receive from the Regional Coordinating Council especially from the minister.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Asantehene and Chancellor of KNUST, Otumfuor, and HE President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Amoakohene looked forward to working together to support this initiative and ensuring that the bond that exists between China and Ghana is strengthened.
Also present at the meeting were Prof. Daniel Duah, Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute; and Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Senior Administrative Assistant responsible for Visibility and Communications at the CI-KNUST.
