On Monday, June 9, 2025, Professor Wang Xiao, President of Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT), China, paid a courtesy visit to Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He was accompanied by Professor Zhou Mingzhi, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at HUAT, and Professor Su Zibo, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at KNUST.
During the meeting, Professor Wang Xiao commended the remarkable progress of the Confucius Institute at KNUST (CI-KNUST), which has achieved significant milestones in less than two years since its establishment. He expressed his profound appreciation to KNUST for hosting the 2025 Africa-China Automotive Development Forum, which focuses on the theme “Intelligent Manufacturing of Lightweight Electric Vehicles.”
“Cars have evolved from just metals and engines into smarter machines,” Professor Xiao remarked, emphasizing HUAT’s readiness - alongside KNUST - to embrace the future of smart electric vehicle technology and innovation.
Professor Mrs. Dickson warmly welcomed the delegation, expressing her satisfaction with the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions. “We are fortunate to have a strong and committed team on both the Chinese and Ghanaian sides working together to turn our vision into reality,” she said. She also expressed her delight at hosting the Forum, viewing it as the beginning of even greater achievements and mutual benefits.
Also present at the meeting were Professor David Asamoah, the Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Charles Nsiah, Finance Officer; Professor Kwabena Nyarko, Provost of College of Engineering; Professor George Marfo, Provost of College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of International Programmes Office and Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute.
Subsequently, the third Board meeting of the Confucius Institute was successfully held to review activities for 2024 and plan strategies for 2025 aimed at strengthening the mandate of the Institute.
