Prof. Nicholas Anastasopoulos from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece called on the Head, Department of Architecture, Prof. Rexford Assasie Oppong on July 20, 2023.
KNUST and NTUA has recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate for the collective good of both parties. Prof. Anastasopoulos is here to explore the implementation of this MOU and to undertake some research activities on survey of sustainability elements in vernacular and contemporary architecture in Ghana, Community life and its reflection in space-making and participate in studios conferences, and meetings with members of the Faculty of Built Environment.
Prof. Assasie Oppong welcomed Prof. Anastasopoulos to the Department. He was delighted about the visit and stressed the importance of such exchanges to the Architecture programme and its international appeal as well as the diverse opportunities this offers to students and staff.
Following the submission of the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah who also teaches at the Department of Architecture, about the possibilities for exchange, Prof. Assasie Oppong looked forward to exploring different options such as joint research, joint PhD supervision, student and faculty mobility etc as ways of collaboration between the two universities.
Later on, Prof. Anastasopoulos joined the second year Architecture class and sat in for juries on major schemes for the communities of Takyikrom as part of design interventions for the rural community where the class spent a week last semester collecting data.
