On Friday, 21 November 2025, a delegation from IMT Atlantique, Brest, France, Professors Amer Baghdadi and Derek Asiedu paid a courtesy call on the Dean, International Programmes Office, Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi, as part of the French Embassy Ghana Funded project entitled "multi-modal based intelligent eaRly dEtection and PrEdiction togetheR with a tInyml-based sensOr device design for OCUlus refracTive Error identification [REPERIO-OCUTEC]”.
The meeting commenced in a cordial yet formal atmosphere as the Dean welcomed the distinguished academics, providing an opportunity to reflect on the progress of ongoing research collaborations and to strengthen broader inter-institutional relations between KNUST and IMT Atlantique.
Professors Baghdadi and Asiedu offered insights into the ongoing work and vision of the REPERIO-OCUTEC project where they highlighted the significance of integrating artificial intelligence, multi-modal data analysis and TinyML technologies to enhance the early detection of refractive errors. They also commended the leadership of Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Optometry and Visual Science, KNUST, who serves as the Ghana Lead and continues to guide the scientific and operational direction of the project.

Professor Edmund Ekuadzi expressed deep appreciation for the strong and fruitful collaboration that continues to evolve between KNUST and IMT Atlantique. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions in advancing academic cooperation and achieving the shared goals of the REPERIO-OCUTEC initiative.
Discussions extended beyond project updates to explore expanded avenues for collaboration, including staff and student mobility, research exchange programmes, and capacity-building initiatives with IMT Atlantique. Both parties expressed optimism about the continued growth and impact of their partnership.
