Delegation from the University of Debrecen Paid Courtesy Visit to Dean of International Programmes Office

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, a delegation from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Y. A.Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The delegation comprised Professor István Pócsi, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology; Professor Eva Leiter; and Dr. Mavis Agyeiwaa Acheampong from the University of Ghana. The team was introduced by Professor Andrews Opoku, Associate Professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences.

Professor Opoku explained that the team is on a study trip to Ghana as part of the University of Debrecen's internationalization agenda. Having visited several institutions across the country, the delegation concluded their academic tour at KNUST. Following fruitful discussions at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the delegation expressed keen interest in collaborating with the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences on research into Aflatoxin.

Professor Pócsi echoed Professor Opoku’s sentiments, noting that the European Commission is currently open to funding African-European collaborations. He emphasized the potential to leverage this opportunity for a sustainable research partnership.

Professor Daniel Duah warmly welcomed the delegation and reiterated KNUST’s commitment to meaningful collaborations that address pressing societal issues. He highlighted that enduring partnerships often begin at the departmental level with committed faculty from both sides and eventually grows to engage the broader university community. He assured the delegation of the IPO’s support in facilitating the proposed partnership, contingent upon the agreement of all relevant parties.

He expressed appreciation for the visit and wished the team a safe journey back to Hungary.

Also present at the meeting were Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer, and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer.
