On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Dr. Marcel Moritz, Associate Professor of Public Law at the University of Lille, France, paid a courtesy visit to Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He was accompanied by Miss Sophie Saar, Head of the International Office for the Faculty of Law.

The visit forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts between the two institutions, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to Dr. Chris Adomako-Kwakye, Acting-Dean of the Faculty of Law, the partnership was initiated through the efforts of Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), who facilitated contact between KNUST’s Faculty of Law and their counterparts at the University of Lille.

Dr. Moritz is at KNUST as a guest speaker at a public lecture organized by the Faculty of Law. He will speak on the topic “The New Challenges of European AI Law: Insights for Africa’s AI Landscape.” As a precursor to the event, he paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor.

“It is an honor to be here,” Dr. Moritz remarked, affirming the sentiments shared by Dr. Adomako-Kwakye.

Professor (Mrs.) Dickson warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the collaboration, emphasizing KNUST’s commitment to research that addresses societal challenges. She observed that, despite geographical distances, many of these challenges are shared between Africa and Europe.

“If the world is to embrace technology, it has to begin with us—universities,” she stated.

She expressed optimism that this engagement would deepen the relationship between KNUST and the University of Lille and wished the delegation a fruitful stay in Kumasi.

Also present at the meeting were Professor David Asamoah, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Professor Esmeranda Manful, Vice Dean of the IPO; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar at IPO; faculty members from the Faculty of Law; and representatives from the International Programmes Office and the University Relations Office.
