Info Session By University of Pretoria with the Mastercard Foundation

The International Programmes Office (IPO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hosted a delegation from University of Pretoria and the Mastercard Foundation on May 14, 2026, for an information session aimed at introducing students to an exciting scholarship opportunity for Undergraduate and Master’s studies at the University of Pretoria.

The delegation, made up of Ikageng Hoko, Dr. Efe Isike, and Tshepiso Molete, engaged students on the amazing opportunities available through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. The scholarship supports academically talented but financially disadvantaged students who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to community service.

During the session, students were taken through the extensive support package available to successful applicants, including full tuition, accommodation, flight tickets, study materials, laptops, feeding allowance, medical aid, and psychological support services designed to ensure a comfortable and enriching academic experience.

The delegation also shared insights into student life at the University of Pretoria, highlighting the institution’s world-class sports facilities, vibrant multicultural environment, and the largest library in Africa. Addressing concerns about safety and inclusion, the team emphasized that the University of Pretoria is home to over 140 nationalities and strongly embraces the spirit of Ubuntu, creating a welcoming environment for international students.

Students were advised that applicants must first secure admission to the University of Pretoria before proceeding with the Mastercard Foundation scholarship application. The delegation further explained that applications typically open in April each year, with the final submission deadline set for August 31st every year.

The session provided students with valuable guidance on eligibility requirements, leadership expectations, and the application process, while encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue quality education and personal development in South Africa.

The IPO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting students throughout the application process and strengthening access to international academic opportunities for the KNUST community.
