PROF. PEDRO SECO E PINTO PAYS COURTESY CALL ON IPO DEAN AFTER A SUCCESSFUL DAM ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

Prof. Pedro Seco e Pinto, lead resource person for the Dam Engineering Workshop at the College of Engineering, KNUST, paid a courtesy call on the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Professor Edmund Ekuadzi, following the successful completion of the 2-Day Workshop on Dams held at the Department of Civil Engineering on the KNUST campus.

During the meeting, Prof. Pinto expressed his appreciation to the University for the warm reception and the opportunity to engage with Ghanaian engineers and dam operators. He commended the College of Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering for their dedication to building capacity in dam safety, design, monitoring, and management. He further applauded the high level of participation and the enthusiasm demonstrated by the Ghanaian engineering community throughout the workshop.

Professor Ekuadzi, in response, conveyed his utmost appreciation to Prof. Pinto for his invaluable contribution to the programme. He emphasized the significance of such training initiatives in improving Ghana’s dam infrastructure and advancing disaster risk reduction efforts.

Both parties explored potential avenues for future collaboration, including staff and student exchange programmes, joint research initiatives in geotechnical and dam engineering, and the possibility of establishing institutional partnerships with Prof. Pinto’s home university in Portugal.

Both Professors Ekuadzi and Seco expressed optimism about deepening cooperation and advancing knowledge exchange between KNUST and global experts in critical engineering fields.The visit concluded with renewed commitments from both sides to formalise these pathways and to explore avenues for developing long-term relationships that will enhance capacity-building, professional development, and knowledge exchange for the benefit of Ghana’s engineering sector.

Also present at this meeting were Prof. Fredrick Owusu-Nimo, Associate Professor, Dept of Civil Engineering, as well as Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Mr. Joel Mensah and Ms. Patricia Frimpong Manso, all from IPO.
