It will be recalled that the Second Year Architecture class adopted eight communities in the Asante Akyim South District Assembly for their Rural Architecture programme this academic year. In the first semester, the class went to live in the following eight communities for a week, collecting data and understanding their way of life: Takyikrom, Subinso, Kumeaboi, Okorekrom, Teshie Praso, Kpong Praso, Asirifikrom, and Agyei Amaa Bibiani.

This study was funded by the Honorary Consular General of the Greece and Cyprus Embassy in Ghana, HE Mariana Gavriel and Three Mountains Organic Cocoa Ltd, a cooperative union for cocoa farmers in the eight communities headquartered at Takyikrom.

Following a semester and a half long activities by the Architecture Year two class involving data processing, documentation, analysis and proposals, a number of plans, layouts and design proposals have been suggested to improve and guide the development of these eight communities.

The visit of the traditional leaders and officials of TMC, they explained, was to see at first hand the results of the work done by the second year Architecture class of KNUST.

The Year Master of the Second Year Class who also doubles as the Dean for the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, appreciate the wonderful reception given to the class by the leaders, officials and people of the community highlighting the rich experiences the class obtained since majority of the class had never lived in villages before.

On behalf of the Head, staff and students of the Department of Architecture, Prof. Edward Ayebeng Botchway, who was standing in for the Head of Department, welcomed the traditional leaders and officials of TMC to the Department. He thanked them for hosting the 2nd year class and highlighted an important feature of the Architecture programme which is Rural Architecture. He also mentioned the importance of community impact as a core value of the university and hoped that enough funds could be raised by TMC to execute at least one of the Design proposals by the class.

The team later joined the 2nd year class in studio for presentations in five of the Design proposals. The team were very excited about the ideas proffered by the students and were amazed that the data collected had been processed and new ideas generated for the development of the eight communities.

At the meeting was Dr. Maria Panta and Arc. Nana Agyemang Cobbinah, staff of the Architecture Year Two class.
