The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Owirenkyi Traditional Council signed an MoU on 17th August 2022 to collaborate in a trans-disciplinary approach to research application for maximum community impact. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson signed with Mr. Kwasi Boateng the Registrar on behalf of KNUST; whilst Ahunabobrim Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, the Omanehene of the Owirenkyi, Traditional Council and his Krotinhene signed on behalf of Owirenkyi Traditional Council.

The collaboration was facilitated by Prof. Daniel Duah and Dr.-Ing. Alexander Boakye Marful from the Department of Architecture, KNUST in line with the VCs vision of impactful research and collaboration with communities in Ghana and the sub-region. This collaboration is expected to enable KNUST to use Assin Kushea as a community for practical application of the innovative ideas and inventions from all the Colleges of KNUST.

The collaboration commences with a project dubbed Smart Healthy City Development Project - Assin Kushea (HECiD-Assin Kushea).

Present at the signing of the MoU was the Nana Mintah Abu V, Krontihene and Nana Osei Owusu Kumati II, Adontenhene of Owirenkyi Traditional Area; Prof. Esmeranda Manful, Vice-Dean, IPO; Prof. Samuel Amos-Abanyie, Dean of Faculty of Built Environment; Dr. -Ing. Alexander Boakye Marful, Department of Architecture; and Mrs. Gladys Addai, Senior Assistant Registrar at the IPO, KNUST.
