Team from Michigan State University, USA pay Courtesy Call on Vice-Chancellor

A team from Michigan State University, USA paid a courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson on June 23, 2023. The team was made up of Dr. Connie Sung, Professor and Programme Director, MA in Rehabilitation Counselling and Co-Director, MSU STRIDE, Center Michigan State University and Dr. Christiana Okyere, Research Associate, School of Rehabilitation Science, McMaster University, Canada.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss a collaborative research project concept paper to be submitted to the European Union’s Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument. According to Dr. Sung, the proposed project is to promote inclusive education using assistive technology for individuals with disabilities in four (4) Low- and Middle Income-Countries i.e., Botswana, Ghana, Malawi and Mali.

The meeting was also to provide an opportunity for the research team to discuss details of the project and to solicit for support from KNUST. Thus, the project will enable underprivileged disabled people across Ghana to access education through the use of assistive technology.

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of Management and the university community, welcomed the team to KNUST, the best University in the world for SDG 4 - Quality Education according to the Times Higher Education for 2023. She expressed her delight in the existing collaboration between the two institutions. She commended Michigan State University for its drive in maintaining its partnership with KNUST and hoped that the partnership between the two institutions would be strengthened further.

Present at the meeting were Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mr. Andrews K. Boateng, Registrar, Prof. Samuel Newton, Acting Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Public Health, Prof. Esmeranda Manful, Vice-Dean, International Programmes Office, Prof. Emmanuel Kweku Nakua, Vice-Dean of the School of Public Health and Head of the Department, Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Dr. Ebenezer Dassah, Lecturer, Department of Global and International Health.
