The Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Daniel Duah, paid a courtesy call on the Director of Alliance Française, Kumasi, Sonia Rottermann, on July 19, 2023.
Alliance Française was established in 1957 as an independent, not-for-profit association regulated by local law based upon the initiative of civil society to exchange cultural and linguistic values. They are aimed at promoting French language, cultural diversity and Franco-Ghanaian cultural exchanges that are fuelled by a passion of mutual enrichment.
Prof. Duah was welcomed by the team from Alliance Française with an exhibition session dubbed “The Hustle Exhibition”. Prof Duah highlighted the activities of the IPO and the visit of KNUST leadership team to seven universities in France in November 2022. The visit focused on ways KNUST could collaborate with Alliance Française to explore increasing opportunities for students to learn and speak French to compete academically in Francophone countries in Africa and around the world.
Sonia Rottermann was excited about the initiative and indicated that French is not a difficult language and it only takes time and practice to be able to speak it. The two pledged to work at making this vision a reality.
At the meeting were Dr. Henry Martin, Lecturer at the Department of Physics, Miss Shalom Agborli, Inbound Exchange Officer, and Samuel Sarpong, Communications and Publicity Officer, both of the International Programmes Office.
