Four Postgraduate Exchange Students from KNUST to the University of Brescia, Italy Call on Dean of International Programmes Office

Four Postgraduate students from KNUST on an exchange programme at the University of Brescia, Italy comprising Mr. Musah Osei, 3rd year PhD student, Mr. Samuel Kings Asare, Mr. Lawrence Owusu-Brenya and Miss. Charlotte Boateng, all MPhil students at the Department of Molecular Medicine called on the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

The students who have been on a 3-month exchange programme at the University of Brescia, Italy returned on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Musah Osei was attached to the Department of Precision Medicine for training and research on cancer at the Pharmacology and Biostatistics Section. Mr. Samuel Kings Asare was attached to the Department of Biomedical and Translational Medicine, Curriculum Neuroscience Laboratory Activity, Lawrence Owusu-Brenya was attached to the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine, Curriculum-Oncology and Immunology: Laboratory Activity, and Charlotte Boateng was assigned to Precision Medicine, Biostatistics Methodology for Epidemiology and Clinical Studies.

The exchange students stated that they had the opportunity to meet different people from different cultural backgrounds. They mentioned that University of Brescia promotes collaboration between students and professors, facilitating intellectual growth and innovative thinking.

In terms of academic environment; the students found it to be highly stimulating, providing access to advanced resources, state-of-the-art laboratories and knowledgeable faculty members. They had hands-on training and experience at their laboratories. The students indicated that they had the opportunity to learn and develop their skills on preclinical experimental research.

Embarking on a research project within a different cultural setting they added, has broadened their perspective and equipped them with transferable skills, they remarked.

Prof. Duah congratulated the postgraduate students for completing the exchange successfully and for representing KNUST well. He was excited to learn about their experiences and the benefits the exchange provided them.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Duah thanked them for being good ambassadors of KNUST. He stressed that the experience gained at Brescia will enable them to conduct excellent work and complete their project on schedule. He suggested that they contact their Brescia Supervisors and buddies on a regular basis to keep the momentum going under the advice of their respective KNUST supervisors.

Present at the meeting were Prof. Esmeranda Manful, Vice Dean - IPO, Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Assistant Registrar and Ms. Evelyn Safowaa, Senior Administrative Assistant, both of the International Programmes Office.
